Economy in HoMM is about tempo. Gold is the bottleneck, but missing wood/ore stalls your build order and delays your unit power spike.

1. Wood & Ore: unlock most early buildings.
2. Gold income: Town Hall → City Hall → Capitol is the long-game backbone.
3. Faction-specific bottlenecks: grab the magic resources your T6/T7 needs.

If you can build Capitol without stalling your key unit building, do it. If rushing Capitol delays your first serious army, you may lose the map before the gold pays back.
